Our Little Roadtrip to Massachusetts and Vermont

Massachusetts and Vermont, how do I even begin to describe this magical trip? Both places completely surpassed any expectation that I had before we left. It also provided some much-needed distraction and joy since this was a week after our beloved furbaby, Alice Juniper, passed away, and things were and are still very raw and tough for the both of us.

We started our trip by driving to the Berkshires in Massachusetts. It was perfect. Winding roads that were full of rich and warm autumn colours as far as the eye could see, it was an autumn lovers dream! The little towns were all so friendly, cosy and beautiful. We didn’t get to spend as much time as we would have liked to have spent in the Berkshires since most of the trip was focused on exploring Salem, but the little bit we did get to experience, we adored!

Speaking of Salem, it was full of Halloween spirit, and it was only the beginning of October! Everything about this town completely spoke to us since we are both big Halloween lovers! We dressed up in costume, took photos with some of our favourite movie psychopaths, explored a spooky and downright amazing wax museum, learned about owls, enjoyed the jack-o-lanterns and scary stories at Pioneer Village and had such an amazing time exploring the town and learning more about its history. And of course, we made sure to visit the Hocus Pocus filming locations, as well! Amuck, amuck, amuck!

After our time in Salem, we headed to Vermont, and we were blown away by its beauty and charm. The mountains there were gorgeous and full of colour, the entire drive was truly breathtaking. We spent a day in Woodstock, which is the most beautiful little town I have ever seen and I fell in love with it. I swear, everywhere looked like the most idyllic scenes from a Hollywood movie. This part of the USA is another autumn lovers dream, and I’m from Ontario, Canada, where the autumns are epic! What we saw of this state was more than I could have ever hoped and I look forward to returning and seeing more of its beauty.

We came home with complete joy from the experience and if I’m to be completely honest, it has been incredibly tough going about day-to-day life without having our little fluffy best friend with us, but I do believe that the trip was the best thing we could do for ourselves. Danny and I are already discussing returning in the future, during the autumn season again, and extending our trip so that we can explore and enjoy more of it. Needless to say, we loved what we did get to experience and would highly recommend taking the journey!
